This is a portrait of Eastern Orthodox icons that was presumably brought back to the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall by a merchant trading with Russia (now part of Ukraine), due to the Hall’s connection with the Lord Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary since the fraternity was founded in their honour. Other saints depicted include Saint Barbara, the Venerable Anthony (first Abbot of the Monastery of the Caves in Kiev), Saint Metrophanes, and the Venerable Theodosius, (second Abbot of the Monastery of the Caves in Kiev).

Squadron Leader Patrick Waddington, a Member of the Company and Actor, found this icon rolled up and stored in the attic of the Hall and paid to have it restored
