Art UK has catalogued works of art by over 38,000 different national and international artists. From Flemish Old Masters to little-known twentieth-century Cornish artists, the range of artists with work in public collections is astonishing.
Thousands of artists and copyright holders have already freely granted Art UK permission to reproduce their paintings in its series of catalogues and online. Reasons to participate in the project include:
The artist's work will be reproduced on Art UK
- Every artist will have his or her own page on Art UK. This page gives access to all paintings in oil, acrylic or tempera created by the artist. In due course it will also show all sculptures by the artist held in publicly owned UK collections, and artworks in other media that have been uploaded by participating collections
There will be a link from this page to the artist's own website, if the web address is provided to Art UK
The Art UK website and the artist's own page in particular will significantly increase access to the artist's work and raise his or her profile
Artists and copyright holders can buy any of Art UK's hardback catalogues at a reduced rate
Artists are also invited to receive Art UK's online newsletter which keeps artists up-to-date with our project, and highlights interesting stories or features about artworks on the site
The Art UK copyright team works hard to trace copyright holders of artworks in participating collections. Despite the team's utmost efforts, it hasn’t proved possible to trace every copyright holder.
If you are an artist or copyright holder of oil, acrylic or tempera paintings in UK public collections, whom Art UK has not yet contacted, please read the Image use and copyright pages of the site. This section details Art UK's approach to copyright, and contains information on how to contact the team.
