Artists and estates

There are over 50,000 artists represented on Art UK and around 23,000 remain in copyright.

Where an image has been taken of an artwork that is still in copyright, the Art UK Copyright team has made all reasonable efforts to ensure that the images are reproduced with the consent of the artwork's copyright holders. This often involves contacting the artist or their studio or gallery, or an artist's estate.

Art UK has a wide range of signed agreements with copyright holders, built up carefully over more than ten years. Our Copyright team continues to work on updating all artwork rights holder's details as new artists and collections are added to the site.

A number of artists and estates are represented for copyright licensing by the Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS) or Bridgeman Images, and we work closely with these organisations to reproduce artworks on Art UK.
