The University of Bristol was founded in 1876 as a University College, formally becoming a University in 1909. Its excellence is acknowledged locally, nationally and globally. It is a member of the Worldwide Universities Network and of the Russell Group of universities. The University is organised into six faculties with approximately 13,000 undergraduate and 5,500 postgraduate students from around 100 countries, studying in facilities based in Clifton and at Langford. It is a research-intensive university and one of the highest rated universities for research in the country, supporting both individual scholarship and interdisciplinary or thematic research of the highest quality.
