The West Shed Museum

The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust

More about

The West Shed Museum is the base of The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust and is home to a small collection of historic steam locomotives and railway coaches brought to life with audio-visual displays including interpretive display boards, audio commentary domes and a mini cinema. The static collection includes two powerful 1930s locomotives designed by Sir William Stanier, 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' and 46203 'Princess Margaret Rose'. There are also smaller engines, a 1920s Royal Saloon and a 1912 dynamometer car (testing vehicle). The Stanier Gallery displays a selection of locomotive headboards, number plates, models and paintings, whilst the locomotive workshop can be viewed from an upper level gallery. The West Shed Museum is situated on the Swanwick site of the Midland Railway Centre but is independent of the Centre.
