More about

A towering Lincolnshire landmark, Tattershall Castle was expanded in brickwork by Ralph (1393–1456), 3rd Baron Cromwell, Lord Treasurer to Henry VI, and subsequently owned by Kings of England. It was bought by George Nathaniel (1859–1925), Lord Curzon in 1911. Having rescued the four crenelated Gothic fireplaces from Tilbury docks just as they were about to leave the country, he bequeathed it and some of the surrounding land to the National Trust. Previously decorated with tapestries, there are only two painted views of Tattershall on display here now.
