More about

The Museum is part of the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Classics, and has been helping students – and the public – discover the world of ancient Greece and Rome since 1884. It is one of the few surviving collections of plaster casts of Greek and Roman sculpture in the world. The collection of about 450 casts is open to the public and housed in a purpose-built Cast Gallery on the first floor of the Classics Faculty. Although nothing here is an original, nearly all the well-known (and not so well-known) works from the Classical world can be seen together under one roof. The painting collection reflects a more modern history and consists of works by the contemporary history painter Tom de Freston. The paintings, along with the reserve research collections (pottery sherds and epigraphic squeeze) can be consulted by arrangement. Opening times are Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm; Saturdays in University term-time only, 10am to 1pm. Entrance is free. All schools and groups must book at least a week in advance. Not all paintings are on display. If you want to see a particular painting, please contact the collection.
