More about

Over the years Kent County Council, with its headquarters in Maidstone County Hall, has amassed a collection of about 20 paintings by a variety of well-known and lesser-known artists. The images range in subject matter but the majority are of previous chairmen and leaders of the council. There are works of high quality, notably 'Joan Marion Neville' by Frank Dicksee which adorns a wall in Sessions Hall. She was the wife of John Charles Pratt 4th Marquis Camden, Lord Lieutenant of Kent 1905–1943, whose portrait hangs on the opposite side of the hall. Frank Dicksee exhibited extensively throughout his life at the Royal Academy in London. He was best known for his genre paintings and portraiture, which included elegant society names such as the Duchess of Westminster and the Duchess of Buckinghamshire. He was knighted in 1925.
