The artist was a Bedlington 'A' pit trainee; he then moved on to work in the workshops where he trained as a painter and moved to Choppington 'B' pit. He worked there until he achieved his City & Guilds in painting and moved to work at British Paints, then Cambrex paints. These paintings were created at the artist's home in Blyth; he has painted many pictures since retiring.
