This work belongs to a group the artist painted in the two years before her husband's death from multiple sclerosis. In the series a sick dog is nursed by one, sometimes two, girls. The animal is helped to feed and drink, to get dressed and, in one work, trustingly lifts his head to have his throat shaved.
