This is a study for a wall painting depicting the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Figure of Mary is seated on a cloud to the right of the picture with her arms outstretched, an angel and cherub are seated at her feet to the left. A painted image of a gilt frame contains the aforementioned scene, featuring concave canted corners and swags of fabric looping around the frame, adorned with tassels. The fabric is being playfully arranged by a group of cherubs.
