Professor Sir Donald Campbell was born in 1930 at Rutherglen and graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1952. He became a consultant anaesthetist in 1961 and was appointed to the Chair of Anaesthesia at the University of Glasgow in 1976, becoming Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in 1987. He died in 2005. The artist, Matthew Healy, was a student at Glasgow School of Art when he painted this portrait.
