Joseph Farquharson painted many winter landscapes which usually showed sheep and snow. They are familiar from countless Christmas cards. The scenes were based on the countryside surrounding his home at Finzean in Aberdeenshire. The subject matter of his work lacks variety but he shows amazing skill and feeling for surfaces and textures.
