Born in London in 1953, Sarah Muffett’s childhood was spent in Bromley until she moved with her mother and grandmother to Norfolk, where she left school at 16 and drifted rather aimlessly through a succession of office jobs. She did, however, meet her future husband in one of these offices, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time! Another move, this time to Dorset, brought more interesting work, initially for veterinary surgeons and subsequently for an architect, where Sarah learnt technical drawing. Sarah says: 'I think my typing was so bad that he thought there must be something I could do better!' Acquiring this skill would later enable her to become self-employed and work at home from their cottage in Child Okeford, which is where she met Michael Taylor.
Michael Taylor and his wife Caroline were our first neighbours in Child Okeford. We remained friends when my husband, Richard, and I moved around the corner, and they came to a party that we held. I was wearing the red dress, and this picture is the result!'
