A Muse in a white and blue dress sits on a stone bench while a poet reads to her while lying on the bench above her. The Muse is either deep in thought or perhaps a bit bored as seen by the fact that she is resting her head on her hand. The clothes, painting title, objects and scenery seem to set the painting in Ancient Greece or the Roman Empire.
