George Dance the younger’s house of the late eighteenth century was mostly demolished by John Soane who designed this house as his country retreat in the 1800s. Later bought by Ealing Council as a library, Pitshanger Manor is now an arts centre and historic house. The artist was a professional soldier who was also a member of the Army Arts Club and the Ealing Arts Group. He painted portraits and landscapes and was particularly interested in painting horses. He lived in Ealing for many years.
