Philippe le Bon was born in 1396 to John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy, and Margaret of Bavaria at Dijon. In 1419 Philippe became Duke of Burgundy after his father was assassinated. Philip held the dauphin Charles, who later became Charles VII of France responsible for his father's murder. After 1435 Philippe acknowledged Charles as King of France after accepting his denial of the murder of his father.
