A landscape view of rugged country road which leads to the left background of the painting. It is flanked by tall, gnarled trees, hedgerow and fields beyond. Two figures with a horse and cart, seen from behind, are travelling along the road driving some cows and sheep in front of them, with a dog running alongside. There is a small cottage across the fields in the background to the right, with a single figure making his way on foot towards it. Hills are visible in the distant background, and the cloudy sky encircles the tall, leafy tree which is at the centre of this painting's composition.
