John Eggington of Rodbaston Hall married Jane Littleton on 3rd February 1708 in Stafford. This portrait and that of Jane Littleton are likely to have been painted as a pair, probably around the date of their marriage in 1708. It is noted on the back of the portrait of Jane Littleton that the Littleton family were ancestors of Clement Mansfield Ingleby on his mother’s side.
