A Member of Parliament from 1820–1805 and again from 1832 until he succeeded as Marquess in 1834.
It is Breadalbane who addresses the House of Commons from the Whig back benches in the finished painting. Hayter has used his red uniform to pick him out from the mass of seated figures in black and dark colours. Breadalbane was a Member of Parliament from 1820–1825 and again from 1832 until he succeeded as marquess in 1834.
