Known for her bold and expressive paintings of fruit, vegetables and flowers in bright and cheerful colours, the liveliness of Fedden's work reflects her enjoyment of painting.

She was the first female tutor in the painting school at the Royal College of Art in London and therefore marks a turning point in the history of female artists; contrasting with other women artists who were denied formal artistic training.

Shown here is an arrangement of petunias and flowering climbers which both have trumpet flowers. The vivid blue lends tranquility to the image, evoking fine weather in Tuscany.
