Michael Foot (1913–2010) was Labour MP for Plymouth Devonport from 1945 to 1955, for Ebbw Vale from 1960 to 1983 and for Blaenu Gwent from 1983 to 1992. Foot served as deputy leader of the Labour Party from 1976 to 1980, and in the early years of Mrs Thatcher’s Conservative Government was Leader of the Opposition. A distinguished author and biographer, Michael Foot’s writings cover Jonathan Swift, Tom Paine and Aneurin Bevan.
