A three-quarter length, frontal portrait of a young woman in a white dress with a blue, fringed mantle and a ribbon in her curly hair. Her dress has a low neck and is pulled in at the waist with a belt with a large round buckle, which is decorated with a cameo head and the inscription 'ANGELICA KAUFFMAN'. She is seated, turned to the right, with a pencil in her right hand resting in her lap, her left elbow leaning on the edge of a table amongst papers and books, her left hand touching her hair.
