This self portrait of the benefactor and great collector illustrates his personal love of Worcester porcelain. He is shown holding a favourite piece of 18th century scale blue Worcester, and behind him on a table is a large and rare Flight & Barr period bowl decorated with a view of Worcester Cathedral, both from his remarkable collection and now in the museum. Perrins followed in his father’s footsteps becoming a Director of the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company in 1891. He purchased the company and the factory museum in the 1930s, paying the wages from his own pocket. In 1946 he set up the Perrins Museum Trust to unite his own private porcelain collection and the factory collections to protect them for future generations.
