The Mill Green was used as a bleaching-green from around 1800. With the Dollar Burn flowing through it, it was also a playground and picnic place for local people. The opening of Dollar Station and the making of the Glen paths to Castle Campbell in the 1860s led to it becoming a popular tourist destination. The view to the Castle from the Mill Green shown in this 1978 painting can no longer be seen. To mark the Silver Jubilee in 1977 a 'clean-up' of the Mill Green led to the random planting of many trees which now block the view to the Castle and have led to much overgrowth of the previously open areas where children could play.
