The rescue of the 'Danmark' on the Atlantic sea by the SS 'Missouri', on 5th May 1889. An inscription on the back of the canvas reads: 'And every soul was saved – 735 persons. 65 mere children under 11 years, 22 mere babies under 11 months. The rescue of the 'Danmark' on the Atlantic by the officers and crew of the SS 'Missouri' May 5 1889.'

This painting was restored by North West Museums service with grant aid from Cumbria County Council.
