Artist in various media, born in Keswick, Cumbria. He studied at Carlisle College of Art, 1953–7, and Royal College of Art, 1959–62. Wilkinson was a protégé of Winifred Nicholson, whom he looked after in the last years of her life, holidaying with her in the Hebrides. His group exhibition appearances included Richard Demarco, Edinburgh, 1975; Victoria & Albert Museum, 1979; Invited artist, Ljubljana Print Biennale, 1987; and Anderson O’Day Gallery, 1989. Solo shows included Sheffield University, 1964; Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal, 1987; and he shared a show at Gallery North, Cumbria, 1990. He was noted for light effects achieved in atmospheric landscapes, as in Langstrath after Rain, of 1982, held by Abbot Hall. Arts Council, British Council and other public collections hold his work.
