Painter and teacher, notable for marine pictures, born in Leeds, Yorkshire, his wife being the designer and jeweller Jeanne Werge-Hartley. He studied at Leeds College of Art, 1947–53, under Maurice de Sausmarez and Edward Pullée, and at Hornsey College of Art, 1972–3. Taught at Portsmouth College of Education and Portsmouth Polytechnic, 1962–90. Showed widely in the Portsmouth area in solo and mixed exhibitions, Portsmouth City Art Gallery holding his work. Lived in Emsworth, Hampshire.
