Painter, poster artist, draughtsman, illustrator and writer. Born in London, he followed his father George Tripp into a public service career which curtailed the time he could devote to art. However, he exhibited quite widely at RA, RI, ROI, SMA and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. He illustrated for a large number of publications and his work appeared as railway posters. Wrote and illustrated several books with watery themes, such as The Waters of the Wight and Shoalwater and Fairway. Was knighted, as Sir Herbert Alker Tripp, in 1945. Lived at Thames Ditton, Surrey.
