Painter, draughtsman and teacher, born in London, who studied at Putney School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools under Charles Sims, John Singer Sargent, William Orpen and others. From 1920 for a period he taught at St Martin’s School of Art. Exhibited RA, RP, NS, Chenil Gallery and elsewhere. He wrote for The Studio magazine in the 1940s. National Trust and Pembroke and Jesus Colleges, Cambridge University, hold his work. R J Swan, as he is often known, lived in Pinner, Middlesex, and in London.
