Artist whose P’s & Q’s exhibition in 2005 was the inaugural show at Rokeby. For that, Mendelson created “a seductive world. Her drawings, paintings and paintings entice the viewer into an elaborate fantasy of intricately rendered imagery and embellishment” in which “idealised innocence and gentility act as a cover for excess”. Mendelson graduated with honours in fine art painting from Chelsea College of Art & Design, 1995–8, gaining her master’s in painting from the Royal College of Art, 1998–00. In 1999 she won a Travel Award to Cité Internationale, Paris, and a Bundy Travel Award and Summer Travel Award, in 2000 The Neville Burston Memorial Award and Cubitt Art Prize in association with the Whitechapel Art Gallery. In 2002, she curated a group show, sub_plot, at Mafuji Gallery, in 2003 the Fellows’ Show at the University of Gloucestershire, having had a Cheltenham Painting Fellowship there in 2002–3.
