Painter, printmaker and teacher, born in Wakefield, Yorkshire. He studied at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art, 1964–8, teachers including Andrew Forge, and at Royal College of Art, 1968–71, with Carel Weight, and obtained his master’s degree. He taught at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, Nottingham University and Reading University’s department of fine art. Arts Council holds his oil on canvas Marker V – Hill, Rod and Stone, of 1976–7, bought from Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, and several provincial collections have examples, including Wakefield Art Gallery. In 1980, Hempton represented Great Britain at the 11th Biennale de Paris. Lived in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire.
