Artist and teacher, full name Harold Denys William Delhanty, married to the painter Kate Delhanty. Born in Cardiff, he studied at the College of Art there, 1942–4, under Ceri Richards and Evan Charlton; served in the Army, 1944–7; then returned to Cardiff, 1948–50, under Eric Malthouse. Became head of art, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, 1951–64; lecturer in art, Rolle College, Exmouth, 1964–6; then senior lecturer, Gloucestershire College of Education, 1966–80. Was a member of the RWA, Cheltenham Group and Fosseway Artists. Mixed exhibitions included Royal National Eisteddfod, SWG, SEA, a six-member show at RWA, 1976, and Six Academicians there, 2001. An article in Leisure Painter, July, 1988, described Delhanty’s working method.
