Painter who studied at Central School of Arts and Crafts, 1922–3, teachers including Bernard Meninsky and James Grant, then Slade School of Fine Art, 1923–6, under Henry Tonks and Philip Wilson Steer. Showed with RA, ROI of which he was made a member in 1938, RBA and widely in the provinces. National Army Museum holds his work. Lived for many years at High Salvington, Sussex. Cattermole came from a line of artists: his father was Sydney, a painter who followed on from George, illustrator of Charles Dickens’ The Old Curiosity Shop and other works.
