Creator of systematic paintings and reliefs, based in London. In 1977 he constructed a series of reliefs funded by Southern Arts Council. Bell was interested in structure, specifically relational qualities of colour, its grammar and figuration expressed within a practice of making paintings and related texts. As well as engaging in group theoretical work, Bell contributed to exhibitions including the 1979 Künstlerbücher show at Galerie Lydia Megert in Switzerland; The House Construction Show at House, 1981; Colour Presentations, Gardner Centre Gallery, Sussex University, and tour, 1986; and Complexions, at Galerie L’Idee, Zoetermeer, Netherlands, and Dean Clough, Halifax, 1989. Arts Council holds Bell’s work.
