Artist in various media, born Merseyside, who studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, 1985–6, gained her bachelor’s degree at Kingston Polytechnic, 1986–9, and her master’s at Goldsmiths’ College, 1991–3. Group exhibitions included Artificial Eden, Camerawork Gallery, 1993; Drawings at Laure Genillard Gallery, BT New Contemporaries at Camden Arts Centre with tour, and The Antidote, Centre 181 Gallery, all 1994; 4 Projects, Frith Street Gallery, and Venice Biennale, both 1995. Had a solo show Pushing Back the Edge of the Envelope, at City Racing, 1994; an Art Now exhibition at Tate Gallery, drawing inspiration from popular culture, 1998; and Stop, Frith Street Gallery, 1999–00. In 2001, visitors to the South Bank could pass under Banner’s Rainbow, a brilliantly coloured canopy of 2,000 hand-painted flags outside the Hayward Gallery.
